The Canadian government has published a list of retaliatory tariffs on U.S. products, including some beef. These tariffs, which went into effect July 1, are in response to steel and aluminum tariffs levied by the U.S. against Canada in May. Canada has indicated the new tariffs will remain in place until the U.S. lifts tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum.
According to NCBA, the Canadian tariffs apply to $170 million worth of U.S. beef products. NCBA Director of International Trade and Market Access Kent Bacus said the unfortunate casualties of the tariff war are America’s cattlemen and women and Canadian consumers.
