AgCenter crops, cattle forum set for Feb. 18 in Alexandria

February 18 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm

$25

Alexandria, La. — The LSU AgCenter will host a Central Region crops and cattle forum Feb. 18 at the State Evacuation Shelter in Alexandria.

“The program aims to showcase the diversity of agriculture production in the central region focusing on our expanded research efforts in beef cattle and provide updates across all our field crop programs,” said Central Region director Tara Smith.

“This event marks the second year the program will include presentations covering crop and cattle production as we continue to broaden opportunities for many producers in the region who are engaged in both types of farming operations,” said AgCenter agent Justin Dufour.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed presentations beginning at 9. The program will conclude with a sponsored lunch.

AgCenter experts will present on a wide range of topics, including weed and disease management strategie; corn hybrid and cotton variety selection; bull management; reproductive strategies for improving herd development; redbanded stink bug control; and identification and control of weeds in pastures and hay meadows.

Other topics will include pesticide drift management, pollinator protection, and worker protection standards and record keeping.

The meeting is approved for recertification for Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Private Pesticide Applicator cards that expire March 31, 2020.

As an AgCenter-sponsored private pesticide applicator recertification meeting, a $15 AgCenter registration fee is required from producers who wish to recertify, Dufour said.

A $25 registration recertification fee is also required from LDAF and will be collected separately from the AgCenter fee, he said.

No registration fees are required for attendees who do not intend to recertify.

Only checks or money orders will be accepted for both fees. The $15 registration fee should be made payable to the LSU AgCenter, and the $25 recertification fee should be made payable to LDAF.
