Ranchers Invited To Learn More About CattleTrace at Manhattan Meeting

December 10 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Collaborators with the CattleTrace pilot project for animal disease traceability will host an information session December 10 at 5:30 p.m. at the Manhattan Commission Company. The program will provide details of how cow-calf producers can get involved in the project.     In early 2018, KLA, the Beef Cattle Institute at Kansas State University and the Kansas Department of Agriculture began developing a purpose-built infrastructure to track cattle movement through the supply chain. CattleTrace will utilize ultra-high frequency technologies to collect the minimal necessary data, including an individual animal identification number, location, date and time, to track animals in the event of a disease outbreak. Tag readers will be located at livestock markets, including Manhattan Commission Company, feedyards and beef processing facilities.
To learn more, join CattleTrace December 10 for a free dinner and brief information session. Those planning to attend should RSVP to Cassie Kniebel at (785) 564-7446 or the local extension offices in Riley, Pottawatomie or Wabaunsee counties.
