The Kansas Beef Council (KBC) reached more than 150 dietitians from across the state at the Kansas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Conference April 12 in Manhattan. KBC sponsored a keynote session led by Jim White, a registered dietitian, American College of Sports Medicine exercise physiologist and owner of Jim White Fitness and Nutrition Studios. His presentation expressed the need for registered dietitians to have a voice in nutrition and the media’s influence on it. White explained how to carefully and skillfully navigate food fears, fad diets and false information with clients and patients. Dietitians were encouraged to connect with their audience, build trust and establish credibility to dispel myths and communicate accurate nutrition information, including the role of lean beef in a healthy, balanced diet.
KBC also sponsored a lean beef lunch featuring “Espresso-Rubbed Tenderloin.” In addition, checkoff-funded handouts and nutrition research focusing on protein for strength and the new Mediterranean diet research were provided by KBC staff during an interactive conference exhibit.
