New vaccine handling pub and Crush Margin app available — both at no charge
Vaccines: Handle with Care, written by ISU Extension beef veterinarian Grant Dewell, highlights how to transport, store and use vaccines properly. It also provides step-by-step instructions with photos for constructing a cooler to keep vaccines at the proper temperature while being used. Improper handling can render the product useless. There also are sections on cold weather usage and proper cleaning of syringes. Download the four-page publication at no charge through the ISU Extension and Outreach web store.
A new “Crush Margin” app for beef and swine producers is now available. The app was developed as part of a North Central Region Risk Management Education grant for livestock price risk management education, and uses data from the ISU Livestock Crush Margin website. ISU extension livestock specialist Russ Euken and ISU Extension livestock economist Lee Schulz developed the app to assist producers in evaluating margins and taking advantages of profitable opportunities.
