Past TCFA Chairman Jason Peeler represented TCFA at a roundtable discussion on USMCA with Ambassador Gregg Doud, U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) and other agricultural and business groups in San Antonio this week. Ambassador Doud serves as the chief agricultural negotiator on USMCA for U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, and Rep. Cuellar is a major advocate for passage of the trade agreement.
Meanwhile, trade tensions with China aren’t expected to slow down after the Trump administration designated China as a currency manipulator for the first time in 25 years. The designation came after China said it would halt all purchases of U.S. farm goods. China’s announcement followed Trump’s proposal to increase duties by 10% on an additional $300 billion in Chinese goods. The additional tariff will go into effect on Sept. 1 unless negotiators can make progress before then.
